The National University of Singapore College of Design and Engineering (NUS CDE) held two gift agreement signing and cheque presentation events on November 1, 2022, to establish two endowed bursaries:
- Masonic Charitable Fund – AWS Thevathasan Zetland in the East Lodge Bursary and
- Masonic Charitable Fund – AWS Thevathasan Dalhousie Chapter Bursary
The Masonic Charitable Fund – AWS Thevathasan Zetland in the East Lodge Bursary has made a generous donation of S$100,000 from The Masonic Charitable Fund, AWS Thevathasan Family, and Zetland in the East Lodge to CDE. Dr. Suresh B. Babu, Worshipful Master of Zetland in the East Lodge, Dr. Brian Shegar, Chairman of The Masonic Charitable Fund, Dr. Ivor Thevathasan, and Professor Aaron Thean, Dean of CDE, all signed the donation agreement. For The Masonic Charitable Fund, Drs. Shegar, Ivor Thevathasan, and Suresh B. Babu awarded Professor Thean the cheque.
AWS Thevathasan Dalhousie Chapter of the Masonic Charitable Fund The generous gift of S$50,000 from The Masonic Charitable Fund, AWS Thevathasan Family, and Dalhousie Chapter to CDE has made the bursary possible. Dr. Brian Shegar, Chairman of The Masonic Charitable Fund, Mr. Paul Yong Way, Principal Z of Dalhousie Chapter, and Professor Aaron Thean, Dean of CDE, all signed the donation agreement. Professor Thean was given the cheque by Dr. Shegar, Dr. Ivor Thevathasan, and Mr. Paul Yong Way on behalf of The Masonic Charitable Fund.
The Masonic Charitable Fund has awarded CDE five endowment grants so far this year; these two gifts make up that total. The College received donations from the Masonic Charitable Fund – Lodge Singapore in January (S$25,000), The Masonic Charitable Fund John William Wilson in April (S$50,000), and The Masonic Charitable Fund Sivakumar Murugaiyan Lion of Erin Lodge in October (S$100,000).
The two gifts, when combined with government matching monies, will allow the College to provide six bursaries to economically disadvantaged students each year.
CDE is really grateful for the charity’s kind support of the future of Singapore youth.
